FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

Albums

How many different brands of albums do you handle?

In the Deluxe line, we have the Renaissance Milano Removable Page, Renaissance Library Bound, Flora Removable Page, and Elite Library Bound.

In the Economy line, we have the Allegre, Vintage, and Paramount albums.

What is the difference between these album brands?

The Renaissance Removable Page and Flora Removable Page Albums have base pages with a wide variety of separate slip in mats that will hold many different sizes of photos in the same album.  For instance, a Large Flora album could hold 8 x 10, 4 x 6, 5 x 7, 5 x 5, 4 x 5 and other size photos all in the same album.   The Renaissance and Flora albums also come in more colors than the Allegre, Vintage, or Paramount.  The Renaissance and Flora albums are constructed with the finest man-made cover materials.   The Renaissance is also available in real leather.  The Renaissance and Flora pages have beautiful gold, silver, or black edges, and gold, silver, or black metal tipped corners, and the Allegre, Vintage, or Paramount pages do not.

The Elite album and Renaissance Library Bound albums are similar to the Flora or Renaissance Removable albums, except that the pages are bound right into the album cover and can not be removed.

The Allegre album is designed to hold only one size of photograph per album.  For instance, a small Allegre album will only hold 4 x 5 or 5 x 5 photos.  The Allegre albums have pages that have the "mat" built right into the page; they do not require separate mats.

The Economy Vintage also has mats that are built right into the pages, but the Large Vintage can hold both 8 x 10 and 5 x 7 photos.  The pages are bound into the album with a sturdy 10 ring binder system  The Mini Economy Vintage has a 4 ring binder system.

The Economy Paramount also has mats that are built right into the pages.  It can hold any combination of 4 x 5, 5 x 5, 4 x 6 or 5 x 7 photos.  The pages are bound in with a sturdy 6 ring binder.

What are the different parts that make up a wedding/photo album?

For the Renaissance Removable and Flora Albums, there are 3 main parts, the cover, the base pages, and the mats.  For the Economy Allegre, Economy Vintage, and Economy Paramount albums, there are 2, the cover, and the base pages.  (The mats are built into the pages on these books).

For the Elite Library and the Renaissance Library, the 2 components are the Cover (pages are bound in and included) and the mats.

What do the terms Large, Medium, and Mini (small) refer to in an album?

They refer to the physical size of the cover, and what maximum size photo will fit.  A Large cover is designed for 10 x 10 photos and all smaller sizes.  A Medium cover is designed for 8 x 8, 5 x 7, 5 x 5, 4 x 6, and 4 x 5 photos.  A Mini (small) cover is designed for 3 1/2 x 5, 4 x 5 and 5 x 5 photos.  (Typically a parent’s album).

How many mats does one "base page" hold? This is the most misunderstood question in building your own album!

A base page holds 2 Mats, one on each side of the page.  One you determine how many mats you will need for your book, divide by 2 to get the number of "base pages", and then order the corresponding page capacity book.  For instance if you have 30- 8 x 10 photos, you would need 30 mats, divided by 2 = 15 base pages, and you would order a 15 page capacity cover.

Can I get a special title imprinted on my album?

Yes, some albums can be imprinted with any of 21 different title dies at no charge; others are available with 11 titles.  The choices for all albums are: Our Wedding, Our Wedding Memories,   Wedding Memories, Memories, Our Children's Wedding, Our Daughter's Wedding, My Daughter's Wedding, Our Son's Wedding, My Son's Wedding, With Love, and Our Love Story.  Flora and Elite albums are also available with: Our Family, Our Silver Anniversary, Our Golden Anniversary, A Celebration of Love, Bat Mitzvah, Bar Mitzvah, Notre Mariage, Neustra Boda and Mis Quince An'os.

Can I get our names and wedding date imprinted on an album?

Yes, custom name and date imprinting is available on all albums in the lower right hand corner of the front cover.  The charge for this optional service is $9.90.

How do the pages fit into the cover? (Removable page albums only)

Each base page has a metal rod at its innermost edge.  You bend the rod slightly so that it "snaps" into the bottom and top page holder blocks on the album cover.  When finished, gives the impression of a magnificent library bound book.

On the Economy Vintage the pages are held into the book with either a 4- ring (Mini album) or 10- ring (Large album) system.

On the Economy Paramount albums the pages are held into the album cover with a sturdy 6 ring binder system.

How do the mats fit into the pages?

The mats slide easily into the base pages from either the top or side of the page depending upon style, and require no further adhesive.  Slide the mat in first before placement of the photos.

How do the photos fit into the mats?

On the Economy Allegre, Economy Vintage, and Economy Paramount albums, the photo slips right into the page from the side.  You may want to place a piece of double face tape or a HERMAFIX square on the back of the photo for extra security.  On the Renaissance Removable Page, Renaissance Library Bound,  Flora Removable  and Elite Library place a piece of two of double face tape, or HERMAFIX squares on the back of the photo.  Slip the photo under the mat and into the page.  Line it up properly with the mat opening, and press gently on the photo, and it will adhere to the base page under the mat.  We supply a pictorial as well as written instruction sheet with every album.  Assembly is very easy.

What is a Hermafix square?

Hermafix is a double-sided precut adhesive square sold in a roll of 1000 squares.  It is available for purchase on our web site.  They're easy to use, and perfect for holding your treasured photos firmly in place.

Is there a warranty on your wedding albums?

Yes, all albums are warranted for life against manufacturing defects by both us and the manufacturer.

Do the albums come with a title page?

Yes, the Economy Allegre, Renaissance Removable Page, Renaissance Library, and Flora Removable Page albums come with a parchment title page that has fill in blanks for attendant names etc.  The Economy Vintage, Economy Paramount, and Elite Library albums do not have title page.

Do the albums come in a box?

Yes, all albums come in an attractive presentation box.

What is the typical price for a complete album?

Each album is different, and prices will vary widely depending upon the brand, style, number of pages you purchase, optional name and date etc.  Keep in mind that the covers cost the same regardless of page capacity.  The major differences in prices are because of the number of pages and mats that you order.  Remember that depending upon album style, pages, mats, or both are sold separately so that you can customize the album to your needs.

As a general rule, the Economy series albums will have the lower pricing, the Flora Removable Page and Renaissance Removable Page will be in the mid-range, and the Renaissance Library and Flora Library styles will be in upper tier.  Please feel free to explore the categories for the various albums, or call us toll free at 1-877-942-5286 for a quote tailored to your specific needs.

Folios

What is a folio?

A folio is a leatherette padded cover photography presentation that will usually hold multiple photographs.  One popular and familiar application is a Senior Folio that students receive at the time of their Senior portrait session.  Folios also make great gifts for members of a bridal party.

What size photos can you place in a folio?

We have folios that will hold 3 1/2 x 5, 4 x 5, 4 x 6, 5 x 5, 5 x 7, or 8 x 10 photos.

How many photos will a Folio hold?

We have folios that will accommodate anywhere from 1 to 24 photos depending upon size and configuration.

How are the photos held in place?

The photos slip into "print pockets" in the mat of the folio.  An arrow on the folio shows from which direction to insert them.  You can add a piece of double face tape to the photo if you wish for extra holding, but it is usually not necessary.

Are folios fully assembled?

Build your own photo folios: We sell and price the Folio cover, and the Folio inserts separately.  Be sure to order both inserts and covers when you place an order.  This allows for maximum flexibility when you are assembling them to your liking.  Each insert has 2 or 3 strips of wide double face tape on the back.  Just peel the release paper, line up the insert on the Folio cover and press down on the insert, and it will instantly adhere.

Complete Assembled Photo Folios: We also now sell designer folios in several styles including 8 open 4 x 6 that are completely assembled.

Can you remove the insert and reposition it?

No.  Once the insert is mounted to the cover, the binding is permanent, and the insert cannot be removed without damaging it, or the cover, or both.

Are inserts reversible?

Yes, all single opening Group A inserts, and all multiple opening Group C inserts are reversible.  Which means that they are square, and can be rotated 90 degrees for an alternate photo positioning?  2 Open Group B inserts are not reversible.

Are the folios made from an acid free material?

Yes, they are acid free, and contain NO photo damaging materials.

Do folios come in a box?

All other folios come in an attractive black gift box.

Photomounts

What is a photomount?

A photomount is a paperboard product that holds a single photograph.  Other names you may be familiar with are "Folder", "Mat", "Photo Holder" or "Easel" depending upon style.

What are the different types of photomounts?

Photomounts generally come in 3 different types.   #1, "Folder", which is a book style type with a protective cover over the photo.  You open the cover to see the photo.  This style does not work well for displaying a photo on a shelf for instance.  #2, "Mat".  This type has no cover; the photo is exposed at all times.  It has a punch out easel leg on the back, so that it will stand up.  This makes it great for displaying a photo.  This type is usually the least expensive type of mount, and will work for both vertical and horizontal photos.  #3, "Easel" Somewhat of a combination of the above two types, the Easel has a cover that when closed protects the photo.  When opened, you can fold the cover backward and lock the two pieces together to form a tri-pod easel that is self standing.

Does one style folder work for both vertical (portrait) and horizontal (landscape) photos?

It depends upon the style.  Mats generally do, Easels may, and folders do not.  Please read the descriptions on each individual item.  For example, if you want to put both 4 x 5 and 5 x 4 photos in a folder, you would have to order both 4 x 5 and 5 x 4 style folders.  If you are putting them in a Mat, the 4 x 5 Mat can be used for both types of photos.

Are photomounts acid free?

Yes, all of our photomounts are made from acid free materials.

How are the photos held into the mount?

Photos slip into the mount from either the side, or top depending on style and are held securely in place by the mat.  For extra holding you can place a small piece of double side tape on your photo before slipping it into the mount.

Picture Frames

How are frames sized?

All frames are sized according to the size of the photo or artwork.  To calculate the approximate exterior dimension, add the photo size and 2 x the width of the frame.   If you wish to purchase a frame for an 11 x 14 photo, order an 11 x 14 frame.

Can frames be hung both vertical (portrait) or horizontal (landscape)?

Yes.  All our frames can be hung either way.  They do not come with hangers, but you can affix your own so that the frame will hang either vertically or horizontally.

Do I need glass?

Often, this is a matter of personal preference.  However if your photo has not been sprayed with a protective photo lacquer, you should cover it with glass.  Glass is also helpful in keeping dust off of your photo, and keeps the photo from being damaged during dusting/cleaning.  There are also types of glass that will cut down on reflection, and protect from harmful UV rays.

What type of glass should I buy?

Buy the least expensive glass that will do what you require.  If you are looking just to protect the photo from dust, and household elements, buy the clear.  If you are hanging the photo in an area that receives a large amount of light from man-made sources, you may need the reflection control glass.  If your photo is in an area where outdoor/sun light will fall on it, you may want to consider the UV protecting "Conservation" glass products.

Proof Books

What is a proof book?

A proof book is a photo album that will hold a large quantity of the same size photograph.

What size photos will fit into a proof book?

We have proof books that will hold 2 x 3 Wallet, 3 1/2 x 5, 4 x 5, 4 x 6, 5 x 5, 5 x 7, and 8 x 10 photos.

How many photos will fit into a proof book?

We have proof books that will hold between 20 and 300 or more photos depending on brand, style, and photo size.

How are the photos held in place?

In most of our proof books, the photos slip into a clear Mylar sleeve.  On the Elite albums, the photos slip into an open face paperboard page.

Are the pages made of acid free and PVC free materials?

Yes, all paperboard pages are acid free, and all Mylar pages are PVC free.  They contain NO photo damaging materials.

Do the proof books come in a box?

All proof books except the Wallet Size albums come in an attractive presentation box.

What type of bindings do proof books have?

Most of our proof books have either a metal snap multi-ring binder, or a plastic spiral comb binding.  Please see item descriptions.
